Anyone who has seen Anthony Falbo's art will certainly agree that art is an extraordinary experience. There is a strong religious overtone and the artist is upfront about it, stating that what he does is God expressed through art. There will undoubtedly be those who'll be taken aback right there and look no further. That would be a mistake as Falbo has a lot to offer.
Anthony Falbo isn't conventional by any means. There are so many sides to this man that it's hard to peg him down. To buy his art, for example, you are not limited to galleries or ordering prints from a store or website. Just for fun I decided to check eBay, and there he was, with his own store, offering hundreds of original paintings and prints in various styles and sizes. I look at the first page, sorted by price from high to low and gulp: 21 million dollars. In fact, all 30 paintings on the first page list for six million dollars or more, including an 18 x 24-inch oil on stretched canvas of President Obama. How can that be?
I look at Falbo's feedback rating. It's 100% positive, all 1,300 of them. Yes, Falbo has sold 1,300 paintings and prints online, on an auction site. From what I can tell, some sold for thousands of dollars, but many sales were for decent prices, mostly for signed limited edition prints. I now see that the artist is quite realistic, offering everything from large oils at those massive prices all the way down to small art cards for a few dollars.
What's also interesting is the artist's ability to express himself in a variety of different styles. There is a very compelling cubism series (which the artist calls cubestration) that includes such varied topics as The Last Supper, Romeo and Juliet, Angelina Jolie, and even dental art. There is an abundance of subliminal messages in those paintings, and they combine colors, composition and styles in a never-ending variety. There's very little repetition here and it's clear that the artist forever seeks to explore new ground and new approaches.
I've personally always been a fan of impressionist art, and here again, Falbo explores the entire spectrum with a truly wonderful variety of work ranging from traditional landscapes with flowers to architecture, sports and music.
A Light and Dark series deals with various juxtapositions of values and visuals with various of depictions of good and evil, heaven and hell, often using modern and surrealistic themes and metaphors. The Genesis series is a dazzling presentation of religious creation themes portraying events of the first book of the bible, mostly abstract and in various styles. While the artist finds his inspiration in God and Jesus and his faith, his art is vibrant and varied rather than dogmatic, and never preaches or dictates. Falbo paintings, for the most part, celebrate joy and life and there's something for everyone.
Equally liberating is the artist's willingness to make his art available through many venues and in different ways and forms. Purists may scoff at getting art from websites or online auctions, and the vast pricing range from just a few bucks all the way to millions (or whatever a patron may want to pay) covers the gamut. It all works for me. The meaning and value of art is in the eye of the beholder, and Anthony Falbo certainly manages to both catch the eye and make sure he does not go unnoticed.
