I was in the market to buy a new television a few months ago. It had been a while since I had bought one, so I was totally amazed when I walked into a store to take a look, but I was also overwhelmed and a bit intimidated as well. The television I wanted to replace was an older projection screen television that was quite bulky and I wanted something more streamlined to take its place. I knew my budget and I didn't want to jump into making a quick decision I might regret later. I've never really bought anything this large on impulse, so I decided to do some comparison shopping before I made my purchase.
I had two choices. I could hit the street and spending many hours going from store to store, talking to salesperson after salesperson, getting conflicting information and personal opinions, or I could leisurely search the Internet in my own home. So, I went home and sat down at my computer. By searching the Internet I was able to find the most popular products and do some price comparison. I was also able to read lots of product reviews to compare features, specs, and prices. And I could see how customers rated their purchases by reading the consumer reviews. I found that reading what other consumers have to say about a product is rather important. They have made their purchases and are willing to share their honest opinion about the product.
By comparison shopping online I was able to compare all the brands I was familiar with, plus quite a few I had never heard of before. Before I did my search, I had no idea what the difference was between 720p, 1080i, and 1080p or why it was important. I learned that 1080p means the picture is 1920 X 1080 pixels and that means full high-definition resolution! I had no idea that would affect the picture as much as it does. I also wanted to learn the differences and the positives and negatives between Plasma and LCD. All I knew was I wanted the best, most reliable television with the biggest and sharpest picture quality that I could afford.
Since then I have made lots of purchases by comparison shopping online. I enjoy photography, but I was still using my old Canon 35mm camera, so I bought two digital cameras. I love to snorkel, so one of them is waterproof to 33 feet. Now I can take digital photos of what I see! I've also purchased two computers through online shopping. To save time, money, and not have to worry about shipping, I've bought computer software, books, CDs, several small appliances and even more electronics online for Christmas and birthday gifts.
By doing my comparison shopping online, I have been able to save many hours of precious time, learn a lot, find the best deals, and even pay for a vacation with the money I was able to save! My mother's birthday is coming up soon; perhaps I'll see what I can find online!
